Winter Playground: The Perfect time to buy
One of the most common things we hear when fall arrives is that families will wait until spring to get a playset. However, getting a playset in winter is a great idea. Summers are harder on the wood than winters which seems to be the biggest concern. It is the sun that causes the most damage. Additionally, something in the yard can encourage children to go outside during the winter months. Spending some time on the playset after school can help them wind down better in the evening. Furthermore, come spring, you will be all set to go, no waiting on the product to arrive or to be put on the installation schedule.
The Benefits of Installing a Playset in the Winter
Less Wood Damage: Contrary to popular belief, wood playsets can actually fare better during the colder months. The summer sun can be harsh, causing more damage to the wood than winter weather. By installing a playset in the fall or winter you’re getting every childhood memory out of your investment as possible.
Encourage Outdoor Play: Having a playset in your yard during the winter months provides a great reason for your kids to bundle up and head outside. This helps them get fresh air, stay active, and use their imaginations, even when it’s chilly. Plus, after a day of school, spending some time playing outside can help them relax and unwind in the evening.
Avoid Spring Rush: Spring is typically a busy time for playset purchases and installations. By getting your playset in the fall or winter, you can avoid the rush and long wait times. You’ll have everything set up and ready to go when the weather warms up, meaning no delays and immediate fun as soon as spring arrives.
Practical Tips for Winter Playground Installation
Choose the Right Spot
When installing a playset in the winter, make sure to choose a spot in your yard that is free from excessive snow accumulation and easily accessible.
Maintenance Tips for Your Playset
Come Spring, we recommend taking a walk around your playset to check for any cracks or loose swing hardware. While surface cracks are normal, changes in weather can sometimes turn them into something that requires a warranty claim. If you’re concerned about a crack, feel free to contact us—we can help determine if it needs a warranty claim or if it’s just a surface crack, which is a normal characteristic of wood.
If you notice any loose swing hardware, it doesn’t necessarily mean the hardware is failing. Often, this happens because the wood has shrunk between the cold and warm months. In this case, simply tighten the hardware once to secure everything back in place.
Safety First
Make sure the playset is set up safely and securely, even if the ground is frozen. This might involve some extra preparation, such as clearing snow from the installation area and making sure the ground is level. If you do choose an area that is not quite level but can safely be installed, we here at Backyard Fun Zone will come back in the spring to level the playset.
Installing a playset in the fall or winter has numerous benefits, from protecting the wood from the summer sun to encouraging your kids to play outside during the colder months. Plus, you’ll be ready to jump straight into the fun when spring arrives. So, don’t wait—start planning your playset installation today and give your kids a wonderful outdoor space to enjoy all year round!
